Greig is very positive about this weekend and said "I have taken all my meds from Drs Main Stay, Jim Beam and Jack Daniels so my body is right - the car has seen several mechanical doctors and its body is right - Killarney has 4 right turns and only 1 left - the bar is 1st right after the steps - with so many RIGHTS this weekend things can only go well. The second round of the 2009 POWERFLOW GTi CHALLENGE takes place this Saturday 4 April at Killarney Racing Circuit. Timed practice (Qualifying) is at 08h00 , Race 1 is at 11h00 and Race 2 is at 14h00 - Please join us for what promises to be another fantastic spectacle of local motor racing. What a hectic time it has been since you last heard from me and the team at POWERFLOW TOKAI RACING ! Even though we did well and won the 1st round of the 2009 POWERFLOW GTi CHALLENGE we have been working flat out on the car making improvements and adjustments. The rules for Class B stipulate a maximum power limit of 115 kW and a maximum torque limit of 200 Nm. We were way down on this spec with only 108 kW and 190 Nm. Many thanks to the VW Guru, Francois Louw, for all the late nights and long hours spent working on our motor. The cylinder head has been on and off 3 times, new intake manifolds have been tried and a mod has been done to the exhaust - the end result is we are now bang on the spec with 114,8 kW and 197 Nm. The car looks great, sounds great and hopefully will now run great. Our driver, and 2007 POWERFLOW GTi CHALLENGE Champion, none other than GREIG "FAT KIMI" EDWARDS has been on a strict training regime and has cut down to only 3 cheese burgers (which he walks over the road and fetches himself instead of sending Matthews The Malawian) and 14 double Cane and Cokes a day. When asked for comment on his strategy for this weekend he replied "I'm so glad my races finish early so I can get more practice time in on my drinking arm at the Killarney Bar afterwards" ALL JOKES ASIDE - Greig and I and the rest of our team are very proud of what has been done so far and are looking forward to a huge race meeting this weekend FEEL THE POWER - FEEL THE SPEED - COME AND SUPPORT US IN OUR BID TO REGAIN THE TITLE - ONE RACE AT A TIME !!! This report is going to be short because our race meeting was cut short (like the Malaysian GP yesterday) On lap 5 of the Race 1 Hilary"COWBOY" Dennysen turned into Greig "FAT KIMI" Edwards going into Turn 4. Both drivers lost control and Greig hit the wall at about 140 kph while Hilary rolled over his bonnet, rolled a few more times in the air and then rolled 3 times on the ground before hitting the wall himself. I am happy to tell you that both drivers walked away from the crash and lived to tell the tale. Greig was rushed to the Killarney bar to be examined by Dr Mainstay who prescribed a little coke mixed with a lot of Cane for the pain. Our next race is less than 3 weeks away on Saturday 25 April. We are working flat out to repair the damage to be ready in time for round 3.
The whole team has been working hard to fix the car in time for the next race meeting just over 2 weeks away.Everything is stripped and the body will go to the Panelbeaters tomorrow. The long and the short of it is that I got a 3rd and a 5th so ended up with a 5th in class for the day. I am also very happy to say that I didn’t get bumped or bump anyone and my car is therefore still bombing along in one piece (with just the one black eye from the last meeting – see attached picture..) .. J
This is also just to let you know that I’ll be racing again this weekend for rounds 5&6.
